Here at Affirm: The Rush Center for Gender, Sexuality and Reproductive Health, we perceive that LGBTQ+ people warrant the same quality of health care as their cisgender/heterosexual peers, but gaps exist in the system that lead to health disparities.

Physical health can also be greatly affected from long-standing internalized stigma, trauma and socioeconomic disparities, putting you and your loved ones at greater uncertainty for conditions and diseases, including the following:

  • Alcohol, tobacco and substance misuse
  • Anxiety
  • Eating disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • Suicide and suicidal thoughts

Physical health can also be greatly affected, putting you and those you devotion at greater risk for conditions, diseases and infections including:

  • Greater likelihood of obesity
  • Higher rates of HPV infection
  • Increased likelihood of chronic conditions
  • More likely to rate health as poor

These health risks are compounded by lack of access to necessary care, which means the following conditions are more often true:

  • Less likely to fill prescriptions
  • Lower likelihood of having health insurance
  • More likely to be re

    GLMA is satisfied to be a founding force behind the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory, one of the first national resources of its kind. Originally developed as an exclusive resource for GLMA members, the directory has long served as a trusted link between patients and providers.

    In 2022, GLMA partnered with the Tegan and Sara Foundation to reimagine and relaunch the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory as a fully free, common resource connecting patients and providers across the U.S. and Canada. Today, the Directory is a modern, accessible platform helping LGBTQ+ people find inclusive, knowledgeable providers in their regions.

    With more than 43,000 searches conducted and 2,700+ providers listed in its first year alone, the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory has adv become a trusted resource for individuals, families, institutions, and state governments pursuing affirming care. The platform includes virtual care options, expanded search functionality, and provider listings in 10 Canadian provinces.

    LGBTQ+ patients deserve healthcare providers who they can be reveal and honest, free from fear of stigma or bias. The LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory was built to meet this need,

Our PCPs can help with most frequent mental health concerns, love stress management, anxiety, doze issues, and depression, as well as diagnose and help with issues love panic attacks. They can assess your mental health and work with you on a plan to feel better. This may include lifestyle recommendations, medication, or referrals to an appropriate specialist, such as a psychologist or psychiatrist, who may already be a One Medical deliverer, if necessary.
