Landmark study to footpath gay and pansexual men's attitudes on body image
Steroid apply is on the rise as immature men fuelled by social media advantage a dangerous pursuit of muscle-bound perfection, researchers warn.

Now, for the first time, a global study run from Australia will watch specifically at how gay and double attraction men are impacted and whether this could be primary to fatal outcomes.
"More and more men and boys are increasingly seeing their appearance as a domain that they have to shine in and proposal control over for others," said Melbourne University research fellow Scott Griffiths, who is leading the study.

Few studies, however, contain examined AAS use among gay and bisexual men living in countries outside the United States. Gay men’s lives now are increasingly mediatized, with gay cruising transforming from a purely physical meeting to the use of geosocial gadgets, causing relevant social changes, such that some gay men would actually prefer to continue at home to “meet” other men, which in earlier decades would sound preposterous. This study applies the mediatization approach in examining how the emergence of new communication technologies and the changing communicative behaviors of gay men in the Philippines elucidate the cultural changes within the gay community and implications of societal changes at large. Focus interviews with a total of 36 informants revealed that gay men use digital apps as part of their sociotechnical “infrastructure of sexual encounter” for cruising and that in this process of play, there emerges among the older gay men the nostalgia of the traditional self of the bakla and practices of pagliligawan.

Gay and bisexual adolescent boys in the U.S. are almost six times more likely to exploit illicit steroids than their straight counterparts, a new review shows.
Researchers said the stats exhibit a "dramatic disparity" that points up a need to reach out to this group.
Reasons for the differences are unclear. The research authors said it's possible gay and bi boys experience more pressure to achieve a bulked-up "ideal" male physique, or that they think muscle-building steroids will help them fend off bullies.
Overall, 21 percent of gay or bisexual boys said they had ever used steroids, versus 4 percent of straight boys. The difference was similar among those who reported moderate employ - taking steroid pills or injections up to 40 times: 8 percent of gay or bi teens reported that amount, versus less than 2 percent of linear boys. The heaviest use - 40 or more times - was reported by 4 percent of gays or bi boys, compared with less than 1 percent of straight teens.
The review is billed as the first to examine the problem; previous research has found similar disparities for other substance abuse.
